SPI Hockey Club started training sessions in the month of January. Training was held three times a week. Training sessions for the afternoon boys were scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the school field, whereas for the morning session students, hockey training was held at the Seremban 2 Hockey Stadium (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Training on Saturdays was for all players at the S2 hockey Stadium. Intensive training and friendly matches with other teams were also held occasionally throughout the year.
The SPI Under -18 team took part in the MSSNS tournament which was organized by MSSNS, and emerged Second Runner-Up. Eight of our SPI boys played for the Negeri Sembilan SUKIM team ( Hemadevan, Hishen, Vinod, Pooven Raj, Thong Chee Sun, Pavitran, Kuhenesevaran and Chia Han Siang) and managed to become Runners-up. Four of our Paulian players Mohd Daniel Hakimi, Mohd Ilham, Mohd Hasif and Thong Chee Sunwere were selected to represent Negeri Sembilan for the national-level ‘1MAS’ Under 13 2016 tournament held in Ipoh, Perak. SPI also took part in the SPTS tournament this year which was held in Seremban 2 and emerged silver-medallists. Besides this, our hockey players took part in the NSHA League, where 20 of our Paulian players represented OPA ‘A’ and OPA ‘B’. Apart from taking part in the MSSNS tournament, the school team had also participated in the following tournaments :
- NSHA Six-a-Side ( U14 ) - Quarter-final
- UNITEN Six-a-Side ( Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur) - 2nd Round
- SUKIM 2015 ( Johor) - 2nd Placing
- Negeri Sembilan Hockey League
- ‘1Mas’ ( U13 ) National Competition (Ipoh Perak)
- SPTS (State-level) - Runners-up
We look forward to more tournaments and more successes for SPI Hockey next year.
