Daniel Fong Tan Sri Chan Choong Tak award recipient interview

1. Firstly the Editorial Board would like to congratulate you on being awarded the prestigious Tan Sri Dato' Chan Choong Tak Award. Would you like to share with us your feelings on hearing that you were chosen to receive this award?

Reply: I leapt with joy when I heard the news. I did not expect to achieve this award. Thanks be to God.

2. Who are the people who inspired you?

Reply: Mostly the past recipients of this award. Master Melvin Pak, Master Roger Gan and the last recipient, Master Shriniven. These past seniors stood out in their schooling days and as a junior I just wanted to be as good as them. Therefore, I decided that the only way I could achieve this award was to give it my all - to put my heart and soul into both academics as well as co-curricular activities. My focus was only to achieve success. My parents played a very big role too. They always encouraged me to do my best and never give up on my dreams. They also told me that there is no limit if I put my 100% into something.

3. What are your plans after completing the SPM examinations?

Reply: Well, after 11 years of continuous studies, I think I will take a few months break before furthering my studies. Many will want to start college early but I am in no hurry. I want to explore the real world and be open to new experiences and challenges. I may even try a part time job, who knows?

4. Would you like to share some words of wisdom with other fellow Paulians.

Reply: When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Life is always full of challenges. Do not give up but rather face them head on. We only become better individuals when we are able to find solutions instead of feeling sorry for ourselves.

5. Any other words of parting?

Reply: I would like to thank all my teachers for their endless support and motivation. This award is indeed by far the best gift that I have received in my secondary school life. To all Paulians, all the best in your future and remember “ Shoot for the moon because even If you miss, you will land among the stars “.
